MEN’S
GROUP
THERAPY
Men’s group therapy in Pleasanton, Danville, and Walnut Creek, offered in person
and online.
These groups offer a kind of space that is difficult to find in most areas of life. This is what makes men’s interpersonal process groups such a powerful catalyst for change.
Men’s group therapy offers a structured space to speak honestly, understand patterns in how you relate, and develop more direct, grounded ways of connecting. Most men are used to handling things on their own, staying busy, pushing through, or keeping things at a surface level. There aren’t many places where you can speak directly about what’s actually going on without having to manage how it’s received.
The group creates a different kind of environment. You begin to see how you come across to others, how you respond when something feels uncomfortable, and what happens when you choose to say more of what’s actually true.
Things that are hard to recognize on your own become clearer in interaction—patterns in how you relate, where you hold back, where you move toward or away from connection.
Over time, that leads to something more grounded. Not just insight, but a different experience and one that is more direct, more honest, and less driven by habit or avoidance.
A KIND OF
CONNECTION
THAT DOESN’T
EXIST IN
EVERYDAY LIFE.
For many men, there is a point where something is no longer working the way it used to, internally, in relationships, or in the direction life is taking.
You may be carrying a lot. You may be functioning well. But underneath that, there can be a growing sense of pressure, disconnection, or uncertainty.
Most men are used to handling that on their own, or keeping it at a distance. Conversations tend to stay at the surface, or move quickly toward problem solving.
Group therapy, grounded in a depth-oriented approach to psychotherapy, offers something different.
As men speak more directly about their experience, others recognize aspects of it in themselves. What might feel isolated begins to feel shared. Reactions, patterns, and ways of relating become clearer through interaction.
What develops is not just a discussion about a problem, but a shared experience of it. The group becomes a place where experience is expressed, witnessed, and reflected from multiple perspectives.
For many men, this marks a kind of threshold, where continuing in the same way no longer works, and something else begins to open up.
Over time, this can lead to a clearer sense of direction, more direct and honest relationships, and a more grounded way of moving through life.
For many people, this work is deepened when it is held in more than one place. Group therapy brings patterns into relationship, while individual therapy offers space to stay with and understand what is emerging more fully.
A Curated and Intentional Environment
Groups are intentionally structured to support honesty, depth, and meaningful engagement.
Our Men’s groups are intentionally composed to create a setting that is both supportive and
psychologically meaningful.
Care is taken in how each group is formed, with attention to who is included and how different personalities and life experiences may interact. The goal is not just to bring men together, but to create a group where the work can unfold in a way that is grounded, direct, and engaging.
This is not an unstructured space. The group is guided in a way that supports focus and psychological safety, while still allowing for honesty and challenge. Men are encouraged to engage at a pace that feels right, while also being invited over time to take the kinds of risks that make the work meaningful.
Over time, this creates a level of trust and cohesion that allows for more direct communication, greater awareness, and a different experience of connection than most men are used to. Learn more about our depth oriented therapy at Waypoint.
